Chod means “cutting through”.  This ceremony is based on teachings from the Buddha on emptiness and selflessness. The beautiful chants of the Chod are traditionally done in the middle of the night. Some of the tunes in this recording (done at the traditional hour) were composed by the late Geshe Jamyang, whose chanting is heard with a choir of the nuns. This recording includes the playing of a flute fashioned from a human thighbone, also a Chod tradition.
